King of the Culvert

Our neighbor, Lynn, called this morning from Tennessee, and asked us to check on her animals and let her dogs out during the day while she's out of town. So we took Molly and Slick (big, enthusiastic but well-trained golden retrievers) for a walk through the trails on their property to a culvert that leads underneath the viaduct on the Airline Trail. The dogs sploshed through, so naturally the kids followed, with Dante growling their names and calling them back every few feet, his echo throbbing through the tunnel.

The King of the Culvert. Unfortunately his "Queen" wanted to join him, but I felt the need to set some limits and refused to allow it. Mean Mommie strikes again, amidst lots of screaming. If a child screams in the woods and no one hears, is she really upset?
