Toastin' Jamboree

Our neighbors invited us to the CT boy scout show this weekend. They had people in period costume from the Civil and Revolutionary wars, some of whom were shooting off cannons and muskets. I was melting in my tank top and shorts, so I can only imagine how hot they were in all their layers and wool.

The most popular spot for us was the arts and crafts barn (it was held at the Hebron fairgrounds) where the kids did leatherwork, embossed copper sheets, made mosaics with small tiles, sand art, "stained glass" panels, made a humming toy... etc. But we did brave the sun for a little while to wander the grounds and see the various booths and activites. The kids were dying to do this obstacle course sponsored by some branch of the military -- national guard maybe? -- so we hitched up Lucia's dress and got in line. Dante was a trooper, helping her as well as trying to rush through himself, and Lucia held her own most of the way.
