skating on thin ice

Learning to skate at the cranberry bog at the head of the Airline Trail in East Hampton. Lulu's double-blades give her the obvious advantage.

A frustrated skater, determined to never come again. He was, however, out skating again less than a week later. And found it to be a little bit easier this time round.

winter sleep

The cold weather has brought us the chance to explore the wetlands area behind our house. Luke and Dante have trekked out twice now, the second time bringing the camera.

Near the end of their wanderings, they discovered this display of woodland whimsy -- bikes on a tree.

Dante, big and strong like tree.

icy bubbles

After dinner on Monday, we all headed outside to blow bubbles into the finally-brisk night air. I huffed bubble clusters until my fingers froze, and as Lucia was starting to grow icicles on her nose, we departed the scene. Luke and Dante braved the bitter chill to capture the bubbles on the wand and watch as they froze or exploded.
